ABR takes on Elephant for charity...

John with his Honda Transalp
Our very own John McLain was featured in Adventure Bike Rider Magazine, the article is about his charity bike ride...

An ex-military ABR, who left the forces due to injury, is doing the Elephant Rally solo, to raise money for Help For Heroes.

40-year-old John Mclain (no, not that one!) is planning to tackle the gruelling Bavarian rally on a Honda Transalp, which will see him cover 3,000 in eight days in the depths of winter, to raise a target £5,000 for the charity.

I’m a very lucky boy,” says John, sales manager at Phoenix Honda, Grangemouth. “I was injured on duty in N.Ireland, but after a few operations on my hands and leg, I’m fully fit and I’ve still got all my digits."

"Me and my best mate from the military were originally planning to do the Elephant together, but he’s now injured and will be in rehab until the end of January, so I thought why not do the ride for charity? Help For Heroes seems a fitting choice under the circumstances.

The Transalp Set for the off
John’s journey will take him from his home in Scotland on 25 January through the UK, France, Germany and the Bavarian Alps to reach the Elephant Rally in
Thurmansbang, East Germany, on 27 January, where he plans to camp in sub-zero conditions before departing for the three-day trip home. And just like his namesake, John, aka ‘Yippy’, is well prepared.

I’ve been fully trained in Artic conditions, and have been fortunate enough to try all my kit in the worst of the Scottish weather,” he explains. “I’ll also be taking the new adventure range of clothing from RST, SIDI adventure boots, and the good old Alpinestar Apex gloves, plus a Snug Bug heated jacket, and an Arctic sleeping bag!

It’s not all cold comfort for John though. “I’m looking forward to taking my time and enjoying the experience,” he says. “My friends and family all think I’m nuts! But that’s because they don’t have any adventure in them.

Unlike us lot, eh? To sponsor John got to http://www.bmycharity.com/johnmclain

Another great year for Phoenix Honda Motorcycles...

Phoenix Honda Motorcycles has once again proved a popular brand within the motorcycle fraternity with our reputation of selling quality bikes continuing to grow.

2011 saw the introduction of three new models in the Crossrunner and Vision 110along with the ever improving Fireblade that further confirms Hondas ability to cater for all biking needs.

The sales team has now changed and 2012 will see Alistair Watt continue to work alongside the ever present John McLain.

Probably one of our greatest launch nights ever saw over 200 people attend the Charity Launch Night of the all new 2012 Fireblade in association with the charity Help for Heroes. Not only was there full appreciation for this iconic machine, we were able to attract great interest in Johns forthcoming adventure to Bavaria in January, where he will embark on a 3000 mile round trip on one of our own Transalps to the Elephant Rally. All for the Help for Heroes Charity.

2012 will see the introduction of some exciting new models, starting with the new Crosstourer, an Adventure Sports Tourer that boasts the same engine as the VFR1200f with our Dual Clutch Transmission system as an option. The Crosstourer is likely to be launched at the beginning of February so watch this space for further details.

The commuter world will have a greater selection with the introduction of the NC750s and NC750x models along with the exciting Integra Scooter. All the bikes should be in the showroom around Spring. We also have an exciting offer on all 125cc Scooters with prices starting from £2050 for our Commuter Vision package that includes bike clothing and CBT test.

Its going to be a very busy year with lots of bike launches and lots of rideouts to be organised, so come in and don’t miss out.

Keeping it in the Family !!

If you have picked up The Herald or The Daily Record today, you will have see our "Welcome to the family" banner. The reason we love this tag line so much is because everything in Phoenix, has that family feeling about it.

So what does that have to do with these cars? Well, every car in this particular advertisement, was sold new at Phoenix, traded in at Phoenix, and looked after by our manufacturer trained technicians, in preparation for the next Phoenix customer. So we hope there's a particular one that interests you, that you can test our intimate knowledge on, before taking it for a spin.

A "Professoinal" opinion on the Kia Optima...

Hi Everyone, Russell here...

I've known craig since his european tour days, watch in excitement when a local boy was leading the way in the open at Turnberry in '94, and heard him recount stories of 80 professional event wins, he also likes a good night out, so that makes him a great guy in our books.

Craig doesn't travel quite as much as when he was a younger player… however he still loves his cars, so who better to give us some feedback on the new Kia Optima… Over to craig…

This week I travelled to play in the optical express event at Tain and Brora, in gorgeous scottish highlands.

I was very happy when the guys at Phoenix Kia hooked me up with a trial of the new Kia Optima to take up, I normally drive a 5 series BMW GT which I love and great for long journeys, so what did I think of the optima, well the best description of a car in its class was EPIC, for a golfer it has a dream boot, its actually massive!!

The driving position and comfort was fantastic and the cockpit is very pleasing on the eye, but the 50 + miles to the gallon is again a golfers dream, Kia have certainly announced them on the car scene in a big way, why not pop in to the Phoenix Kia and take a test drive, you won't be disappointed.

Would I have one ? Definitely !!!

As for the golf it was a bit of a mixed bag finishing 20th where the putter was as cold as the north wind, but there's a long season ahead and many miles to be done, hopefully I will get to test a few more cars on the tour with Phoenix. Many thanks to Russell Smith for lending me the car.

Yours in Golf
Craig Ronald

From Supercar to Super Mower!

Another hectic week flies by…

In a week that heralded some great news from SMMT on new car sales for the month of April, a 14.3% increase on last April for private buyers! That’s why it’s been so busy recently, its worth checking out all our new car offers at www.phoenixcar.co.uk before we run out with that sort of demand!

The week has been a blur of activity, none more than when I had to, note just had to, take a yellow Porsche 911 Carrera 4 targa across country to our Edinburgh branch. It just shows that at Phoenix Motown we have everything from Fiat Pandas to exotic supercars. Now if anyone has a spare £40k to invest, this comes highly recommended, fun at less than half the price it was when new!

Dropped this off and picked up a new Hyundai Veloster demonstrator to go back west. First long drive in one of these, a great combination of economy and head turning looks. We have discovered since its launch late last year that the Veloster attracts customers who have driven many quality cars previously such as BMW coupes, VW Sciroccos and many more. So many gadgets, I need to take one home to see if the Xbox really works in it!!

Delighted to be advised by Motor Trader Magazine that Phoenix has been short listed for Best Training Program in the Industry. Stiff competition from across UK I’m sure, but watching our bright young graduates in action I see no reason why we shouldn’t be reasonably confident of a great result.

Great meeting on Friday with David Hart and Elaine from Kia. I was keen that David was aware of all things Phoenix and he kindly sat through a quick (?!?!) presentation on our roots, values and goals! David thrilled Kate our Marketing Director and myself with some innovative plans from Kia’s marketing department.

At the end of a hectic week, I decided the garden was needing attention. Roll out the Honda ride-on-mower. What an investment a couple of years ago. Almost makes this task fun. Our team at Lawn & Garden are pretty busy at this time of year, really should take it in for a service…

Anyone remember the scene from Forrest Gump where he rides his mower everywhere?
